Jack Daniels whiskey and few cubes of ice, turns Rakesh into a completely different man. Being a frequent business traveler, he enjoys the complimentary whiskey served, at the airport’s business class lounge, on each of his trips abroad. During most of his trips he boards the flight quite inebriated often at the risk of getting offloaded by the crew. Rakesh expresses a myriad of emotions the moment whiskey and ice cubes chill his stomach. On days he becomes a music aficionado and starts playing different genres of music on his iPod, on other days he just becomes too sloth. However each time he gulps down few pegs his love for Trina increases.
The day, Rakesh was leaving for Brazil, he called Trina from the airport. He was as always in high spirits and his deep manly voice appeared sexier over the phone. From the slur in his speech Trina understood that he was dead drunk. He started talking incoherently, and soon his language turned foul. In his drunkenness he called Trina ‘bitch’. She went ice cold for few moments hearing the ‘B’ word. The otherwise decent and sober Rakesh had turned into a nasty truck driver exactly the way Himu used to get transformed after few pegs.
Holding the phone in her hands, listening to Rakesh, Trina wondered, is history going to repeat itself. Suddenly the difference between Rakesh and Himu got blurred. She presumed, probably all men turn into the same monster with whiskey and few cubes of ice.
The unfortunate truth! As usual another great one from you Balaka😊

Balaka, a great piece of writing.
Men and alcohol mix well but the aftermath of consuming the ‘devil’s drink’ is unimaginable. and your story just proves the point.

Lovely story, Tina. What an irony that men drink to feel good but it brings out the worst in them!

As a man who appreciates and enjoys his fine whiskey on the rocks, I would politely say no. Not all men turn into monsters after (quite) a few drinks. Well written post. Cheers

Its sad to see what we women are WILLING to put up with in our lives, by our choice! Why must we be so? Its not ok to be abused- we have done nothing to deserve it! And no – excusing a man’s foul behaviour becuase he is a man and he is drunk – is very very unacceptable! I really hope to see women empowered enough to be aware to revel in their choices in life and not take being put down as their Karma! I like the post as it connects with my theme Balaka…. hope my comment is not too strong or offensive!

I absolutely loved your comment…you understood the real essence of the write-up…The story is not about whiskey but about the abuse..whiskey is just an excuse to get abusive…Loved your comment..thanks for visiting.

My first thoughts after reading this poignant piece was – All men are the same, be it with or without the whiskey. Majority of them think low of the females and this leads to abuse.
Then a few lines from the book ‘The Forty Rules of Love’ came to my mind in which Rumi says it is not the fault of the alcohol. it sets the person free bringing out what is hidden deep in a person’s heart. If there is love, love will flow out freely. If there is negativity and hatred hidden, then so will it flow out. The bitter truth is people have more hatred and malice in them and then we blame the alcohol and the bars.

You aptly said Anamika….what is inside will come out…and as I said in my previous reply it is not the alcohol but the abuse that needs to be addressed…thanks for this lovely and thoughtful comment😃

Oh that’s sad. So many women forgive men saying that they were drunk and continue to live with them. But alcohol simply exposes the truth in a person’s heart. I hope Trina found the strength to end this.

I guess she did… she had already ended one abusive relationship with Himu…so I guess she will have the courage to end this one as well…thanks for the comment dear..

Oh that’s sad! I thought Himu was a nice person, not a I-am-not-in-my-senses-after-a-few-pegs-down guy! Sad for Trina to have 2 men in her life exactly the same.
